Bremen Airport seeks return of Lufthansa Frankfurt feeder flights

Bremen Airport is in intensive talks with Lufthansa over restoring the Frankfurt feeder service, with a decision needed within weeks so the route can return for the summer 2027 timetable. The Bremen–Frankfurt link was cut on 1 July, and airport-side stakeholders are pushing to recover a connection seen as strategically important for hub access and business travel.

Airport supervisory board chair Kai Stührenberg is among those involved in the discussions, which also cover possible concessions on airport charges. Bremen wants any reinstatement to rebalance traffic between Frankfurt and Munich without weakening the Munich service, which has become Lufthansa’s main feeder option at the site.

The Frankfurt route carried up to five daily rotations before it was withdrawn and was regarded as financially significant for the airport. Bremen has estimated the loss at about EUR 2 million to EUR 3 million a year, while the airport’s deficit has risen to roughly EUR 13 million, increasing pressure to secure additional traffic. Lufthansa has not yet made a final decision, and an October timetable deadline remains the key trigger for whether the link can return in summer 2027.
