Bombardier will acquire the assets of MHI Canada Aerospace in Mississauga, Ontario, bringing about 750 employees in-house and taking over aerostructure work for its Global 5500 and 6500 business jets and Challenger 3500 programme. The move gives Bombardier control of a key supplier operation near Toronto Pearson airport as it seeks to strengthen manufacturing capacity and reduce supply-chain risk.
The transaction covers assets rather than Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ parent company and carries no disclosed purchase price. MHICA’s capabilities include wing assemblies, fuselage sections and flight-control installations for Bombardier aircraft. Once the deal closes, expected later in 2026, the workforce and manufacturing activity are set to transfer to Bombardier, with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries providing transitional support.
Bombardier has been reshaping its production footprint around higher control of critical aerostructures as it seeks greater resilience across its supply chain. The Mississauga site has been a significant contributor to its Canadian aerospace operations, and the integration of those assets will bring work previously carried out by an external supplier into the company’s own manufacturing network. Regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions remain outstanding.
