Bangladesh to review nine Biman aircraft purchase agreements

Bangladesh’s civil aviation ministry will scrutinise nine aircraft purchase agreements signed under the previous administration for Biman Bangladesh Airlines, as the government checks whether any irregularities were involved in the contracts. The review was disclosed in parliament in Dhaka during a question-and-answer session, placing fresh attention on the flag carrier’s fleet expansion programme.

The probe comes as Biman continues to reshape its long-term fleet strategy through new aircraft purchases and leasing plans. The airline has already moved ahead with a major Boeing order, while officials have also discussed additional leasing to cover near-term capacity needs before new jets begin arriving. The nine-agreement review could affect the timing, structure or validity of the earlier deals, although no models, values or formal findings have been made public.

The scrutiny adds another layer to an already active procurement debate around Biman’s expansion. With the airline balancing long-haul growth, fleet renewal and short-term operational demand, the ministry’s review signals that past contracting decisions remain under close government examination.
