Austrian Armed Forces use Klagenfurt Airport for SERE training

The Austrian Armed Forces are using Flughafen Klagenfurt for flight-related training as part of a SERE exercise in Carinthia, with around 130 soldiers from the Jagdkommando taking part. The exercise runs from 24 August to 4 September and includes parachute training and associated aircraft activity at the airport.

The airport describes the cooperation with the Bundesheer as a strong partnership for security, reflecting the continued military use of civil aviation infrastructure at the site. Flight operations supporting the exercise are centred on Klagenfurt, while the broader training takes place across several parts of Carinthia.

SERE stands for Survive, Evade, Resist, Extract and covers survival and recovery scenarios for troops operating in demanding conditions. The note gives no flight schedule, passenger impact or aircraft-specific restrictions, suggesting the activity is being managed within planned airport operations.
