Atlas Air Worldwide Takes Strategic Stake in Icelandic ACMI Carrier Air Atlanta

Atlas Air Worldwide has announced a strategic equity investment in Air Atlanta, the Iceland-based long-haul ACMI and charter operator, marking a new step in its outsourced capacity platform.

The transaction, disclosed on May 27, 2026, gives Atlas the role of anchor strategic investor in Air Atlanta while leaving the Icelandic carrier to operate as an independent airline under its own brand and existing management. No purchase price, ownership percentage or governance details have been made public.

The deal is designed to deepen the operational partnership between the two companies and support fleet and network growth at Air Atlanta, which specializes in deploying widebody aircraft on ACMI and charter missions for passenger and cargo clients worldwide. By securing additional long-haul ACMI capacity, Atlas aims to better match seasonal and niche demand across its global customer base.

The investment is consistent with Atlas Air Worldwide’s strategy of expanding its outsourced aviation services platform. In March 2026, the group placed a firm order for 20 Airbus A350F freighters, with options for 20 more, for deliveries starting in 2029, as part of a broader fleet modernization and growth plan.

No information has been released on regulatory approvals, closing timetable, or specific aircraft commitments attached to the partnership.
