Algeria will close its airspace to all UAE-registered civilian and military aircraft from midnight on 11 September, after severing diplomatic ties with the United Arab Emirates. The restriction covers both arrivals and departures, while commercial civilian flights between the UAE and Houari Boumediene International Airport in Algiers are exempt until the end of 2026, when the current contract expires.
The measure was issued by Algeria’s Defence Ministry and follows the same-day breakdown in diplomatic relations between Algiers and Abu Dhabi. Public reporting indicates the closure is broad, but no duration has been given for the general restriction beyond the immediate start time.
The airspace move adds an operational dimension to the political rupture and affects UAE-registered aircraft flying into or out of Algeria. Multiple regional and international outlets carried the same details, with the exemption limited to scheduled commercial passenger services linked to the capital airport.
