Aena’s Spanish airports handle nearly 35 million passengers in August

Aena’s Spanish airport network handled 34.9 million passengers in August, up 4.7% from a year earlier, as summer traffic remained strong across the country’s main hubs. The group’s total traffic, including Spain, London Luton, Leeds Bradford and 17 airports in Brazil, rose to 41.38 million passengers, also 4.7% higher year on year.

Spanish airports recorded 273,292 aircraft movements during the month, up 4.3%, while freight volumes fell 5.2% to 104,356 tonnes. Madrid-Barajas remained the busiest airport in the network with more than 6.5 million passengers, followed by Barcelona-El Prat with more than 5.9 million and Palma de Mallorca with 4.8 million.

For the first eight months of 2026, Aena’s Spanish network carried 225.54 million passengers, an increase of 4.1%, and handled nearly 1.9 million aircraft movements, up 4.4%. The figures point to sustained demand through the summer peak and follow the same pattern seen across the wider group’s portfolio.
