The Lufthansa Group will reallocate its North American network in summer 2027, transferring Lufthansa’s Frankfurt and Munich–Seattle services to Discover Airlines from late March. Lufthansa will instead open a new Frankfurt–Columbus route on 5 May with three weekly Boeing 787-9 flights featuring its Allegris cabin, giving Ohio’s capital its first nonstop link with Europe.
Discover will operate the Seattle flights for the leisure-oriented market, while Lufthansa is directing additional capacity towards business-focused destinations. The group has not yet published definitive frequencies by origin, aircraft assignments or exact start dates beyond the late-March timing. Passengers holding existing Lufthansa bookings for Seattle will have their reservations transferred automatically as the booking system is updated.
The Columbus service will operate on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Lufthansa describes it as the first and only nonstop connection between Europe and the region at launch, citing expected business demand linked partly to investment projects by Bayer and Intel in Ohio.
The switch follows earlier transfers of selected Lufthansa long-haul routes to Discover, including Orlando and Philadelphia in 2022 and Minneapolis in 2025. It forms part of the Lufthansa Group’s wider summer 2027 expansion, which includes ten new intercontinental connections with a particular focus on the Americas.
