Air Serbia flight returns to Belgrade for additional passenger screening

Air Serbia flight JU134 from Belgrade to Moscow returned to Nikola Tesla Airport on 3 November after turning back over Lithuania. The Airbus A320, registered YU-APH, was redirected after the airline received information from airport services that one passenger required additional security checks. Air Serbia did not identify the passenger or disclose the nature of the concern; the checks were to cover the passenger and baggage before the flight could proceed.

The airline said the crew acted in accordance with instructions and applicable procedures, while passenger and baggage screening falls under the airport security system and relevant services. Former Serbian minister Aleksandar Vulin confirmed he was on board. After landing, he underwent further checks and said nothing prohibited was found. He was travelling to Moscow on official business to discuss extending the gas agreement between Serbia and Russia.

Serbian media also named Dušan Bajatović and Nenad Popović as passengers, but Air Serbia did not confirm their identities. Reports that Vulin had boarded without completing the required screening have not been officially confirmed. The aircraft’s return followed a security concern raised after departure, prompting the airline to bring the flight back to its origin for further checks.
