C&L, ScioTeq Develop STC for Legacy Citation and Embraer Displays

C&L Aviation Group is partnering with ScioTeq to develop an FAA supplemental type certificate for installing ScioTeq’s DU-875 NG Light display in older Cessna Citation Excel, Encore, Ultra and Bravo business jets, as well as Embraer ERJ 135/145 aircraft. The drop-in LCD replacement is intended to address obsolescence affecting Honeywell DU-870 cathode-ray-tube displays while reducing power consumption, weight and maintenance requirements.

The proposed modification retains compatibility with the existing cockpit configuration, allowing operators to replace the legacy displays without a broader avionics reconfiguration. ScioTeq is the DU-875 original-equipment manufacturer and a Honeywell partner for the Primus Elite display upgrade programme.

The DU-875 NG Light has a 7-by-5-inch LCD screen with 1,024-by-768 resolution. It consumes 34 watts, compared with 138 watts for the DU-870, and weighs 15.4 pounds. The unit is convection-cooled and available with black or grey bezels.

C&L and ScioTeq expect the newer display to improve reliability and lower operating costs through a substantially higher mean time between failures than the ageing CRT units. The STC remained under development, with no approval or service-entry date provided. Pricing, installation time and the number of aircraft potentially affected have not been disclosed.
