Ondas has completed installation and EASA certification of BIRD Aerosystems’ Airborne Missile Protection System (AMPS) on a Bombardier Global 7500. The system incorporates Directional Infrared Countermeasures (DIRCM), enabling the ultra-long-range business jet to carry an integrated missile-protection capability within a certified configuration meeting applicable European airworthiness requirements.
AMPS is designed to protect aircraft against man-portable air-defence systems and other infrared-guided missile threats. It combines missile warning, threat detection and confirmation, tracking, and DIRCM, which uses directed infrared energy to disrupt the seekers of heat-seeking missiles.
The operator and customer were not disclosed, and the aircraft’s operating location was not identified. The certification was issued in the context of European airworthiness requirements and expands the range of high-value and VVIP aircraft platforms equipped with BIRD and Ondas protection systems.
BIRD previously disclosed contracts to install AMPS and its SPREOS DIRCM system, housed in an AeroShield pod, on a Global 7500 and a Gulfstream G700 for an undisclosed European customer. The latest update confirms completion of the Global 7500 installation and certification but provides no further information on the G700 project.
