Air India to withdraw from Vienna as further European routes are cut

Air India will end its scheduled Delhi–Vienna service after more than a decade, with the final direct flight planned for late October 2026. The route currently operates four times a week using Boeing 787-8 aircraft, but the airline’s regular nonstop passenger service to Vienna will no longer be available from 1 November.

The withdrawal forms part of a wider reduction and restructuring of Air India’s European network. The carrier is also cancelling Delhi–Birmingham, Delhi–Copenhagen and Amritsar–London Gatwick services. The Copenhagen and Gatwick routes are due to end on 25 October, while the Birmingham cancellation takes effect on 4 November.

Vienna will remain in Air India’s operation only as an occasional technical refuelling stop on selected services involving Toronto, San Francisco and Vancouver. Those stops will not provide scheduled direct passenger connectivity between Vienna and Delhi.

The cancellations will leave passengers travelling between Austria and India reliant on connecting itineraries from November. Air India has not provided a detailed explanation for the individual route decisions, and the available schedule filings do not establish whether financial performance, fleet availability or demand was the determining factor.
