Edinburgh Airport has launched a £500 million five-year investment programme backed by VINCI Airports and Global Infrastructure Partners to expand and modernise Scotland’s busiest airport. The first phase is already under way, with the South East Pier expansion due to open in summer 2027, while the wider plan is set to add gates, aircraft stands, terminal space and new passenger facilities across the campus.
The programme will increase the terminal footprint by 60%, with a larger check-in hall and departure lounge, upgraded retail and food and beverage areas, new international arrivals and baggage facilities, additional EV infrastructure and a new access road. The airport is aiming to improve passenger flow and support growth in both short-haul and long-haul services. It expects the work to strengthen links from Scotland to Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia.
The airport is jointly owned by VINCI Airports, which holds 50.01%, and Global Infrastructure Partners, which owns the remaining 49.99%. The investment is described as the airport’s largest ever and forms the first phase of a broader long-term development plan for the site.
