Air Canada plans to launch scheduled service to Ho Chi Minh City in 2027 after Canada expanded its air transport agreement with Vietnam on 24 September. The route would be the carrier’s first to Vietnam and would create the first regular non-stop air link between the two countries, subject to government approvals and the completion of operating procedures in Vietnam.
Canada’s transport ministry said the revised pact allows direct flights between the two markets for the first time, with capacity set at up to 14 weekly passenger-combination flights per country and up to seven weekly all-cargo flights per country. Fifth-freedom rights will also apply to all-cargo services.
The agreement was unveiled alongside Vietnam’s state visit and the launch of a Canada-Vietnam Strategic Partnership, adding trade and diplomatic weight to the aviation opening. Air Canada has not yet disclosed a Canadian departure point, frequency or exact start date, and tickets are not on sale.
