Stephenville International Airport to reopen after year-long closure

Stephenville International Airport in Newfoundland and Labrador is set to reopen in early October after about a year of closure, with Stephenville International Airport Corporation overseeing the restart following BTG Capital’s acquisition of the site in June. The reopening restores a strategic technical stop and service point for domestic and international operators in Atlantic Canada, while the airport’s full-service FBO has already resumed operations under new ownership and joined the Avfuel Network.

The reopening comes after the airport’s previous owner ran into legal and financial difficulties that led to the shutdown. The revived operation is being positioned around fuel, ground handling and support services for aircraft using Canada’s North Atlantic routes.

The FBO is offering 24/7 ground handling, with customs support expected in the fourth quarter of 2026. The timing of the wider ramp-up differs slightly across recent updates, with the airport restart framed as an early-October event and the FBO operating again already.
