Borus Airlines has ordered 10 LMS-901 Baikal aircraft from UZGA, expanding commercial interest in Russia’s light-aircraft programme. The single-engine turboprops are intended for a mix of missions, including forest monitoring and passenger transport, although Borus plans to put them into practical service first to work out early technical issues before carrying passengers.
No delivery timetable was disclosed. The order comes as Russian regional operators continue to line up for the Baikal as a replacement for older light aircraft, including the An-2. One industry estimate puts the total number of Baikals ordered across the market at about 100.
The LMS-901 remains in development and testing, yet the latest deal indicates that operators are willing to commit to the type ahead of full maturity. Borus’ use case also points to an initial emphasis on utility work, with passenger operations expected only after the aircraft proves itself in day-to-day flying.
