U.S. Air Force F-16 crashes near Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany

A U.S. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon assigned to the 52nd Fighter Wing crashed near Spangdahlem Air Base in Rheinland-Pfalz on Tuesday afternoon. The pilot ejected safely and is receiving medical care after the aircraft went down at about 2:30 p.m. local time.

Emergency and disaster-response units from the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm district were dispatched to the scene, where local authorities reported one injured person. The crash occurred during or after a training flight, with some accounts saying the jet was on approach to land when it came down. The cause remains under investigation, and officials said further details would follow.

Spangdahlem is a major U.S. Air Force F-16 base in Europe, making the incident operationally significant for the wing’s readiness and maintenance posture. Several reports also described it as the second U.S. Air Force F-16 incident in about a week, although details on ground damage and the exact crash sequence remain limited.
