Saab to install and run remote tower for Stockholm-Västerås Airport under 15-year deal

Saab will install and operate remote air traffic control for Stockholm-Västerås Airport under a 15-year contract starting on 1 January 2028. The Swedish technology group will manage the airport from its Remote Tower Centre in Sundsvall, extending its digital tower model to Västerås and making it the fifth airport in Sweden to use the setup.

The project covers a fully digitalised infrastructure that includes a camera tower, a digital remote-control workstation and meteorological services. Saab will also remain responsible for the infrastructure throughout the contract term, giving it both the technology and operational role in the arrangement.

Västerås joins Saab-supported remote-tower operations already in place at Sundsvall-Timrå, Sälen, Örnsköldsvik and Linköping. The contract expands the company’s footprint in Sweden’s regional aviation market, where centralised air traffic control has become an established operating model for smaller airports.
