Saab to provide remote air traffic control at Stockholm-Västerås Airport

Saab will install and operate remote air traffic control services for Stockholm-Västerås Airport under a 15-year agreement that begins on 1 January 2028. Traffic at the Swedish airport will be managed from Saab’s Remote Tower Centre in Sundsvall, making Västerås the company’s fifth airport in Sweden to use the system.

The contract covers a fully digitalised setup, including a camera tower, a digital remote-control workstation and meteorological services. Saab will also operate and maintain the digital infrastructure throughout the agreement period.

The arrangement extends Saab’s remote tower network in Sweden, where Sundsvall-Timrå, Sälen, Örnsköldsvik and Linköping are already controlled from the Sundsvall centre. Saab has positioned the service model as part of ongoing aviation technology development, with the potential to lower operating costs and support future upgrades. No financial terms were disclosed.
