DHL Express launches direct Bahrain–Johannesburg freighter service

DHL Express has operated the first direct flight between Bahrain and Johannesburg, opening a new weekly Bahrain–Johannesburg cargo lane with a Boeing 767 freighter. The service links Bahrain with OR Tambo International Airport and adds dedicated capacity for shipments moving between South Africa, the Gulf and wider global markets.

The new routing is aimed at strengthening DHL’s Sub-Saharan Africa network connectivity and expanding heavier-weight capability across the region. Johannesburg Hub will handle the traffic as one of the company’s main gateways for South Africa and neighbouring countries, supporting both inbound and outbound flows.

The Bahrain–Johannesburg service forms part of DHL’s broader push to improve Middle East–Africa air links. It also adds flexibility for trade lanes serving South Africa and surrounding markets, where demand for regional and intercontinental cargo capacity continues to grow.
