China Eastern Airlines will lift its Shanghai–Auckland–Buenos Aires service from two to four weekly flights from 5 December, using Boeing 777-300 aircraft on the long-haul route. The expansion adds two weekly rotations on the transpacific link between Shanghai Pudong, Auckland and Buenos Aires Ezeiza, strengthening one of the few scheduled China–South America connections.
The existing operation runs twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays, while the additional services are scheduled for Thursdays and Sundays. The Buenos Aires–Auckland sector is marketed as a fifth-freedom leg, giving the route added commercial value beyond point-to-point traffic.
The move increases capacity on a niche long-haul market that connects mainland China with Argentina via New Zealand. It also extends the carrier’s presence on a route that combines intercontinental passenger demand with traffic rights that are uncommon in the region.
