Luxembourg Airport suspended flight operations on Friday evening after unauthorised drones were detected near and then over the aerodrome, disrupting services at Findel and diverting at least 19 flights. Operations resumed at about 01:20 local time on Saturday after inspections found no immediate safety risk, while more than 1,800 passengers were affected and delays continued as normal schedules were restored.
Luxair had 17 flights impacted by the disruption, which sent aircraft to Cologne/Bonn, Brussels, Frankfurt-Hahn, Liège, Paris, Basel and Strasbourg. The closure was treated as a precautionary safety measure affecting passengers, crews, airport staff and aircraft.
Luxembourg’s government has opened an investigation and has not reached any conclusion on the origin or operator of the drones. Prime Minister Luc Frieden linked the response to broader security coordination with international partners and NATO allies, underlining the sensitivity of the incident beyond routine airport disruption.
