ATR is using FLY91’s firm order for 40 ATR 72-600 aircraft as a signal that its turboprop model fits underserved regional markets across Asia-Pacific. The deal, valued at about $1 billion at list prices, was signed in New Delhi earlier this month and is scheduled for deliveries from 2027 to 2032, making it ATR’s largest firm order in nearly a decade and, in some coverage, the largest ever placed by a regional airline.
ATR Senior Vice President Commercial Alexis Vidal linked the order to the manufacturer’s strategy in low-cost regional connectivity, saying the agreement reflects demand in markets where geography and traffic patterns favour smaller aircraft. India is emerging as a key growth market, while wider APAC opportunities remain centred on countries such as Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia. ATR is also considering an Indian final assembly line as one option to support future regional demand.
