Two British nationals were among three people killed when a Cirrus SR22T light aircraft crashed in the Fluhalp area above Leukerbad in Switzerland’s Valais canton. The aircraft struck a mountainside shortly after 16:00 local time after a journey that reportedly began in Lugano, stopped in Sion and continued towards Buochs.
Swiss authorities have not established the cause of the crash. A technical safety investigation and a parallel criminal inquiry have been opened as emergency crews reached the remote Alpine site. One of the victims has been identified in media coverage as Owain Davies, a Welsh engineering executive, while the remaining two bodies are still undergoing formal identification.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office confirmed support for the families of the two British nationals and contact with local authorities. The accident has drawn attention because it involved a fatal light-aircraft crash in a busy mountain resort area and remains under active official investigation.
