Okmulgee Regional Airport starts work on first purpose-built passenger terminal

Okmulgee Regional Airport in eastern Oklahoma has broken ground on a new 4,000-square-foot terminal that will be its first purpose-built passenger facility. The project, backed by the City of Okmulgee, the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics and federal grant funding, is set to give the regional airport a dedicated customer-service building for pilots and passengers.

The terminal is part of a broader $2.5 million airport upgrade that also covers a parking lot, improved lighting, drainage, new fencing and a motorised gate. Plans for the building include a pilot lounge and conference room, extending the airport’s ground-side amenities beyond its existing facilities.

Funding for the project is split between $600,000 in federal grants, $950,000 from the state aerospace agency and $950,000 from the city. Construction is expected to take about one year. The development adds a new passenger-facing asset to an airport that has not previously had a dedicated terminal, supporting future service and tenant activity at the site.
