Amsterdam Schiphol has reached an agreement with the airport’s security contractors and unions that removes the threat of further strikes by security staff. The deal covers working conditions at one of Europe’s busiest hubs, ending the planned stoppages that had threatened longer queues for passengers at security checkpoints.
Schiphol, I-SEC, Securitas and Trigion agreed improvements with the FNV and CNV unions after several short walkouts in late August put pressure on the airport’s operations. The package includes better break arrangements, more rest after consecutive workdays, improved use of part-time staff, greater certainty around leave planning and measures aimed at reducing workload and heat stress.
Some changes take effect immediately, while others will be phased in later. The agreement also covers the handling of bathroom breaks and staffing practices that had been central to the dispute, helping to stabilise operations at the Dutch airport and avoid fresh disruption for travellers.
