Cathay Group carried a record more than 3.6 million passengers across Cathay Pacific and HK Express in August 2026, the highest monthly total in its history. Cathay Pacific Airways and HK Express both benefited from strong late-summer demand in Hong Kong, while Cathay Cargo also reported a year-on-year increase in freight volumes despite elevated jet fuel prices.
Cathay Pacific carried 2,827,486 passengers in August, up 5.4% from a year earlier, while HK Express carried 796,074 passengers, down 0.8% as capacity rose 3.3%. Combined passenger numbers for the two airlines increased 4% year on year. Cathay Cargo moved more than 150,000 tonnes of freight, 9% higher than in the same month last year, highlighting continued strength in the group’s cargo business.
