Turkey suspends Mahan Air flights amid US sanctions pressure

Turkey has suspended Mahan Air’s flights to Istanbul and Ankara, with the Iranian carrier’s last services on those routes scheduled for 20 September and the ban due to take effect the following day. The restriction affects both directions and appears to apply only to Mahan Air, while other Iran–Turkey operators continue to fly the market.

The move follows fresh US sanctions on Iran’s aviation sector imposed earlier this month, which have increased pressure on Mahan Air and related companies. Regional reporting indicated that the suspension notice had been formally communicated to relevant parties, although no Turkish public statement was available in the accessible coverage.

Mahan Air, Iran’s largest privately held airline, has relied on Turkey as one of its key international markets. The Istanbul and Ankara services are among its most important regional routes, connecting Tehran with two of Turkey’s main commercial centres. The decision comes at short notice and removes one of the carrier’s few remaining direct links to Turkey.
