Somon Air has taken delivery of its second Boeing 737 MAX 8, with the aircraft arriving in Dushanbe on 12 September and entering the Tajik carrier’s fleet for international operations. The jet, named after classical Persian-Tajik poet Abu Abdullah Rudaki, comes about six weeks after the airline received its first 737 MAX 8 on 27 July 2026.
The new aircraft is expected to support Somon Air’s expansion on longer-haul routes and improve operating efficiency as the airline modernises its narrowbody fleet. Initial international services linked to the aircraft include Dushanbe flights to Seoul, Beijing, Minsk and London, widening the carrier’s reach beyond its core regional network.
The delivery follows a broader fleet renewal effort as Somon Air builds out its MAX programme. No commercial terms of the aircraft acquisition were disclosed in the available reporting.
