Charleroi airport urges renewed talks as Skeyes strike looms

Brussels South Charleroi Airport has called on Skeyes management and union representatives to resume constructive talks after conciliation failed over night-shift pay for air traffic controllers. The dispute is set to trigger a 24-night strike from 16 September, with potential disruption to passengers, airlines and airport operations at one of Belgium’s main low-cost gateways.

BSCA described the labour dispute as an internal matter for Skeyes, but warned that the planned stoppage could ripple well beyond the control tower. The airport urged an immediate solution and advised passengers to check flight status with their airline before travelling.

Skeyes had already warned that the action could affect about 832 flight movements over the strike period, including morning and night services. The night work allowance dispute has centred on pay for controllers at Charleroi, where limited overnight activity makes the bonus a flashpoint in wider negotiations.
