Kühne+Nagel has opened a new healthcare and pharma logistics centre at Frankfurt Airport in Cargo City South, expanding specialised cold-chain capacity at one of Europe’s busiest air cargo hubs. The 3,505-square-metre facility sits on a company-owned site within the airport cargo area and is built to handle temperature-sensitive healthcare products, including controlled room temperature, chilled and ultra-low-temperature storage.
Around 2,500 square metres are dedicated to storage at +15°C to +25°C, while more than 500 square metres support cold-chain handling at +2°C to +8°C. The site also includes ultra-low-temperature freezers down to -70°C, temperature-controlled staging areas and dedicated truck-handling facilities for pharmaceutical traffic.
Direct access to the tarmac is intended to shorten transfer times and reduce product exposure during handovers between air and road. The facility carries HealthChain certification and joins Kühne+Nagel’s global HealthChain network, which now spans more than 270 certified locations, as demand rises for specialised healthcare supply chains.
