Air Cambodia orders 20 COMAC C909s for fleet expansion through 2029

Air Cambodia has signed a purchase agreement with COMAC for 20 C909 regional jets, with the carrier becoming the first overseas national flag carrier to place a batch order for the type. The aircraft are due to support the airline’s domestic and regional network from Cambodia, with the first two deliveries expected in November and the remaining firm aircraft scheduled through 2029.

The deal grew out of a memorandum of understanding signed in September 2025 for 10 firm aircraft and 10 options before being converted into a full purchase agreement in July. The C909 will be configured with 93 seats, including three in business class and 90 in economy, pointing to short-haul use rather than long-range deployment.

Air Cambodia plans to deploy the jet mainly on domestic services and routes across ASEAN and China, selecting sectors based on demand and operating economics. Cambodia’s State Secretariat of Civil Aviation completed a training programme review ahead of the first arrivals, indicating preparation for entry into service is already under way.
