The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee has approved legislation to streamline FAA aircraft certification, sending the measure to the House floor after a voice vote on Tuesday. The Aviation Innovation and Global Competitiveness Act is aimed at making type certification more efficient and predictable for new aircraft and advanced aviation products, including advanced air mobility designs.
The bill would require the FAA to publish expected certification timelines, improve the efficiency of issue papers and increase transparency around delegation in the certification process. Those changes are designed to ease a process that manufacturers have long described as a bottleneck for bringing new aircraft and other advanced aviation products to market.
GAMA welcomed the committee action, and the House markup also covered a wider package of transportation-related bills. The legislative text mirrors companion Senate language that has already moved through committee, keeping certification reform on track in both chambers as lawmakers weigh broader aviation policy changes.
