Sydney Airport rolls out 50 electric buses in push toward net zero by 2030

Sydney Airport is introducing 50 electric buses across its landside and airside operations, replacing diesel vehicles as part of its Scope 1 and 2 net-zero target for 2030. The fleet includes 25 dual-control airfield apron buses and 25 Citirider electric shuttle buses supplied by Australian manufacturer Bus & Coach International, with the vehicles to enter service progressively rather than in a single step.

The buses will operate on 100% renewable electricity through the airport’s power purchase agreement. The shift is set to lower ground-transport emissions while also replacing diesel shuttles with quieter vehicles for passengers and staff moving around the airport precinct.

Sydney Airport did not outline route changes, service frequency adjustments or a timetable for the full transition. The phased rollout indicates the existing diesel fleet will be retired over time as the new electric buses are deployed across airport operations.
