Qatar Airways plans 138-jet fleet expansion over five years

Qatar Airways plans to take delivery of 138 new aircraft over the next five years as it steps up fleet modernisation and network expansion from Hamad International Airport in Doha. The plan, outlined by Group Chief Executive Hamad Ali Al Khater during a media open day, includes Airbus A350-1000s, Boeing 777-9s and 50 Airbus A321LRs due by year-end, alongside a wider connectivity push with Starlink fitted across about 150 aircraft.

The fleet programme is designed to support growth in long-haul capacity, cargo operations and access to secondary markets that are harder to serve economically with current narrowbody aircraft. Qatar Airways is also preparing a next-generation Qsuite rollout, while passenger traffic has recovered to more than 90% of previous levels, giving the carrier room to expand again. The airline currently serves around 160 destinations and continues to position Doha as a major transfer hub for intercontinental traffic.
