Northrop Grumman has opened its new Propulsion Innovation Center in Elkton, Maryland, adding 57,000 square feet of propulsion engineering and manufacturing space at its 550-acre Propulsion Systems & Controls site. The facility is designed to house about 250 engineers and lift on-site solid rocket motor design and manufacturing capacity by 25% as the company expands work on advanced propulsion for U.S. and allied defence programmes.
The centre forms part of an investment of about $100 million at the Elkton campus and supports more than 30% staffing growth at the site. Maryland Governor Wes Moore joined Northrop Grumman leaders, employees, local officials and industry partners at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The opening comes amid stronger demand for domestic propulsion production across missile and hypersonic programmes. While Northrop Grumman has not detailed individual customer orders for the new facility, it has positioned the site to support solid rocket motor and hypersonic propulsion capacity for future defence work.
