Amazon has paused operations with 21 Air after the cargo carrier’s Boeing 767, flying on behalf of Amazon Air, overran a runway at Miami International Airport and struck vehicles on the ground, killing five people. The move affects shipments that would otherwise have been handled by 21 Air while investigators examine the deadly accident.
The aircraft came to rest beyond the runway after landing in Miami on 6 September and ignited after the impact. All five fatalities were on the ground, and five others were injured, including the two pilots. The crash has prompted scrutiny of the aircraft’s landing sequence and the circumstances that led to the overrun, but the cause has not yet been formally established.
Amazon is routing affected cargo through other carriers as a precautionary measure during the ongoing probe. The aircraft involved was operated by Miami-based 21 Air for Amazon’s cargo network, and the decision underscores the temporary operational disruption around one of the company’s outsourced freight partners.
