Air Astana, Boeing and Istanbul Technical University held a workshop in Almaty focused on making aviation more sustainable, with sustainable aviation fuel at the centre of the discussions. The event brought together Kazakhstan’s aviation authorities, Almaty airport and KazMunayGas-Aero, with the debate concentrated on SAF production, introduction and regulation in Kazakhstan.
The workshop underlines how Kazakhstan is developing the policy and infrastructure needed to support alternative aviation fuels. For Air Astana, the discussions fit within its long-term decarbonisation plan, which targets net zero emissions by 2050.
No detailed outcomes, signed agreements or volume commitments emerged from the event, leaving the workshop as an early-stage industry and policy engagement rather than a commercial deal. Even so, the participation of fuel, airport and regulatory stakeholders points to growing coordination around SAF supply chains and implementation in the country.
