Korean Air and Asiana to add free Starlink Wi-Fi on initial fleet of 14 aircraft

Korean Air and Asiana Airlines will begin rolling out free Starlink-based in-flight Wi-Fi on 15 September, starting with 14 aircraft on international routes as the South Korean carriers modernise onboard connectivity. The initial fit-out covers medium- and long-haul services to the Americas, Europe and Southeast Asia, with free access available across all cabins and wider fleet deployment planned through the end of 2027.

Korean Air will equip three A350-900s and one 777-300ER first, while Asiana will start with nine A350-900s and one A330-300. Passengers will connect through the aircraft network after switching to airplane mode, entering their name and seat number and viewing a short advert. Voice and video calls, along with YouTube Live broadcasts, will remain restricted.

The move comes as the two airlines move closer operationally and look to align service standards, while satellite connectivity becomes a more visible competitive feature on long-haul routes. For Korean Air and Asiana, the switch also replaces or supplements older paid Wi-Fi systems on equipped aircraft, giving both carriers a premium cabin amenity that is now being offered without charge.
