Ryanair adds five Swedish routes but warns higher charges could curb growth

Ryanair has unveiled a record Winter 2026 schedule for Sweden, adding five new routes, one extra Boeing 737 based at Stockholm Arlanda and capacity for 4.6 million passengers a year. The programme spans 43 routes and lifts the carrier’s Swedish base to eight aircraft, with new services linking Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö to Rabat, Warsaw, Wroclaw, Budapest and London.

The expansion follows Sweden’s abolition of its aviation tax in July 2025 and a suspension of the security fee until December 2026. Ryanair linked those measures to its continued growth in the market, but warned that future route and aircraft deployment could be affected by higher access costs.

The airline said Swedavia charges have risen 22% since the aviation tax was scrapped, while the security fee is due to increase by 67% from March 2027. It also outlined a longer-term target of doubling Swedish traffic to 8 million passengers a year by 2030 and adding five more based aircraft, although that depends on competitive airport and security costs.

Ryanair framed the Swedish programme as part of its wider European scheduling for Summer 2027, saying unresolved cost policy could influence where it places capacity, routes and jobs across the continent.
