Iberia gains unrestricted A350 heavy maintenance approval from AESA

Iberia Maintenance has received unrestricted approval from Spain’s aviation regulator, AESA, to perform heavy maintenance on its entire Airbus A350 fleet. The authorisation gives the company full scope to carry out comprehensive A350 checks at its heavy maintenance facilities in Spain, expanding its MRO capability on the widebody type.

The approval follows a two-year project that involved more than 150 workstreams across training, engineering, production, materials, equipment, infrastructure, documentation, organisation, quality and IT systems. Iberia’s maintenance chief, Enrique Robledo, described the authorisation as confirmation that the company has the processes, resources, documentation, organisation and qualified staff needed to support A350 work.

The decision is effective immediately and removes previous limits on the type of A350 heavy maintenance Iberia Maintenance could undertake. It strengthens the division’s position in the heavy-maintenance market and could create additional third-party business alongside support for Iberia’s own A350 operation.
