2,977 drone lights recreate Twin Towers over New York Harbor for 9/11 anniversary

A commemorative drone display titled 2,977 Lights Over New York Harbor illuminated New York Harbor on Wednesday night, recreating the Twin Towers at full architectural scale with 2,977 lights, one for each person killed in the 11 September attacks. The free public tribute formed part of the 25th-anniversary observances and appeared alongside the annual Tribute in Light near Ground Zero.

The installation was developed with members of the 9/11 community, including victims’ family members, survivors and first responders. Organisers framed the show as a moment of reflection and unity rather than a commercial spectacle, with the lights rising over the harbour before assembling into the towers’ outline. The memorial was widely reported by major international outlets, while one account identified Sky Elements as a production partner.
