Amadeus Travel Intelligence has flagged a sharp rise in air bookings to Munich for Oktoberfest 2026, with demand from India up 59.7% year on year and Japan up 30.7%. The travel analytics also show the United States remaining the largest origin market at 37% of bookings, even after a 10% decline, as festival demand continues to draw long-haul travellers to Munich.
The data cover travel between 18 September and 4 October 2026, compared with the same period a year earlier. Australia, Canada, India and Japan are all growing, while the average stay stands at 5.8 days and 39% of travellers are booking solo. Munich’s hotel market is close to full, with occupancy at 95%, just below last year’s 96%.
The figures reflect forward-looking booking trends rather than completed arrivals, but they underline the continued pull of Oktoberfest for inbound traffic. The mix of markets is shifting, with strong growth from Asia partially offsetting weaker US demand. That pattern is relevant for airlines and airports planning capacity and load factors on routes into southern Germany during one of Europe’s busiest event-driven travel periods.
