Korean Air and Asiana to offer free in-flight Wi-Fi through Starlink

Korean Air and Asiana Airlines will begin offering free Starlink-based in-flight Wi-Fi on selected aircraft from 15 September, starting with a limited rollout across medium- and long-haul routes to the Americas, Europe and Southeast Asia. The service will launch first on 14 aircraft, including Korean Air A350-900s and a 777-300ER, and Asiana A350-900s and an A330-300, before expanding through both fleets by the end of 2027.

The South Korean carriers are moving to SpaceX’s low-Earth-orbit network to replace or supplement slower paid internet options already fitted on parts of their fleets. Access will be free in all cabin classes and will be available through the onboard portal after passengers place devices in airplane mode and enter their name and seat number. An advertising step forms part of the login process.

Voice and video calls, as well as social-media live streaming, will remain restricted under airline policy. The phased deployment is expected to improve connection speed and stability for streaming, messaging, browsing, gaming and cloud-based work, while remaining limited at first to aircraft already equipped with Starlink hardware.
