Emirates wins traffic rights for BER flights

Emirates has secured traffic rights to add Berlin-Brandenburg Airport as its fifth destination in Germany, ending a long-running dispute over further route access. The approval allows up to seven additional weekly flights and keeps the airline’s existing German network intact, which already covers Frankfurt, Munich, Düsseldorf and Hamburg. The move opens the way for a direct Dubai-Berlin service using Emirates aircraft, likely with a Boeing 777-300ER operation.

The German federal government linked the decision to bilateral talks with the UAE leadership and the visit of the UAE president to Germany. BER’s inclusion gives Berlin a place in the Germany-UAE air services framework after earlier efforts to expand beyond the four established points remained unresolved. For Berlin, the change strengthens long-haul connectivity through Dubai’s hub, while for the German market it adjusts the balance around competition with Lufthansa and access to intercontinental traffic.

The exact start date for the BER service has not been fully clarified in the confirmed reports, and the final operating pattern will depend on Emirates’ implementation within the approved weekly limit.
