Prague Airport to add passport control capacity at Terminal 1

Prague Airport will expand passport and border-control capacity at Terminal 1 for arriving passengers, adding five new passport desks and four EasyGoGate self-service lanes as part of a modernisation due to begin in September 2026. The work, scheduled to finish by the end of April 2027, is designed to ease queues at Václav Havel Airport Prague’s non-Schengen arrivals area and speed processing for eligible passengers.

The upgrade also includes a larger waiting area and improved ventilation in the control zone. Terminal 1 handles non-Schengen traffic, so all arriving passengers there must pass border checks, making the project a key operational change for throughput at the airport.

The additional EasyGoGate lanes are intended for eligible European passport holders, while the extra booths will increase manual processing capacity for other arriving travellers. One report put the cost of the modernisation at up to 290 million Czech koruna.

The project comes as airports across Europe adjust border infrastructure to handle tighter processing requirements and peak-time pressure.
