Bombardier’s Global 8000 has received UK Civil Aviation Authority approval to land at London City Airport, opening access to the central London hub for the ultra-long-range business jet. The clearance takes effect immediately and allows aircraft equipped for the steep-approach profile to operate into the airport, subject to operator and crew approvals.
London City’s short runway and tight urban setting require a 5.5-degree approach, a demanding procedure that limits access to aircraft and crews with the appropriate certification and operating authorisation. The Global 8000’s approval extends its mission profile into a key financial district airport, reducing reliance on longer transfers from airports farther from the city centre.
The aircraft can now be used at London City by operators whose jurisdictions have approved the steep-approach supplement, while individual aircraft and crews still need separate clearance. Bombardier has positioned the Global 8000 as capable of nonstop links between central London and cities including Singapore, Los Angeles, Honolulu and Buenos Aires.
