Saab wins new FMV order for Sweden’s future fighter work

Saab has secured a new order from Sweden’s Defence Materiel Administration for continued work on the country’s future combat-aircraft programme, extending studies and demonstrator activity on manned and unmanned fighter concepts. The contract is worth about SEK 2.9 billion and covers work from 2026 to 2028, with options to run into 2029 and 2030.

The order keeps Sweden’s next-generation combat-air planning moving beyond earlier phases of the programme and underpins further technology development for future air systems. Saab will work on flying and ground-based demonstrators, advanced studies and future system concepts as it develops capabilities tied to the post-2040 requirement for a new fighter solution.

The latest contract builds on work awarded in 2024 and 2025 and extends activity that had been set to continue through 2026 and 2027. Saab has recently shown a full-scale concept model for an uncrewed combat-air system, underlining the wider direction of the programme toward both crewed and uncrewed options.
