The US Army Corps of Engineers has awarded Conti Federal Services a $74,787,155 firm-fixed-price contract to build a specialised B-21 hangar at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri. The facility will support radio-frequency and measurements work needed to verify the stealth characteristics of the bomber, with completion expected in September 2029.
The one-aircraft-position project is tailored to the B-21 Raider programme rather than routine parking or general maintenance. Plans call for back shops, storage, administrative and support space, secure and non-secure areas, a measurement bay, power supply room, server and data-analysis rooms, offices and composite tool storage. The work reflects continued infrastructure build-out at Whiteman as the Air Force prepares the base for operational support of the stealth bomber fleet.
The contract drew three bids, giving Conti Federal a defined role in one of the more specialised pieces of B-21 beddown infrastructure to date. Whiteman needs the hangar to inspect the aircraft and confirm it retains its low-observable characteristics; without it, that maintenance step would have to be performed elsewhere.
