Lufthansa Cargo to take over Frankfurt handler LUG Aircargo Handling

Lufthansa Cargo has agreed to take over LUG Aircargo Handling in Frankfurt, securing immediate access to additional handling capacity at its home hub. The transaction, signed on 7 September, covers a company that employs about 400 people and operates roughly 50,000 square metres of warehouse space in Germany, making it a significant addition to the carrier’s cargo infrastructure at Frankfurt.

LUG will continue to operate independently in the market after closing, with existing customer relationships expected to remain in place. No purchase price was disclosed. The deal still requires antitrust and other regulatory approvals before completion.

The acquisition fits alongside Lufthansa Cargo’s wider Frankfurt infrastructure programme, LCCevo, under which it is investing around 600 million euros to modernise its cargo centre. By bringing ground handling more directly under its control at Frankfurt, Lufthansa Cargo is also expanding capacity at one of its most important operational hubs.
